Performance Testing

Prepare Your Website for the Best Sales Day

Your website is the path that connects your offerings to your audience. For retailers, it is a critical vehicle for sales and for B2B, it may connect your key stakeholders to information and resources. First impressions count. Whether Black Friday, quarter-close or another significant event, you want to know that your site can handle the stress and load of extreme traffic and demand. A single day can make or break some businesses.

When a website crashes or fails to function properly, people notice. Estimates suggest the recent Amazon outage cost them over $2.5M in sales in fewer than 15 minutes. The impact of a downed site is felt in sales, customer confidence and beyond.

Pressure Test with JMeter and BlazeMeter

JMeter and BlazeMeter testing offers a way to pressure test your website to determine how it will handle large amounts of traffic. The resulting report provides information such as:

  • The maximum number of concurrent users your site can handle
  • The performance of static and dynamic resources and web dynamic applications
  • The maximum load capacity on web servers including throughput and standard deviation

Testing your site for stress and load gives you a roadmap for potential hardening as well as a degree of confidence in how your site will perform.

Endurance Testing – Determine the stability of application with a significant load extended over a significant period of time

Scalability Testing – Determine the scalability of application under test for the target load

Tools For Performance Testing

Common Questions About Performance Testing

What is required for JMeter testing?

Simply, the URL to your site. However, if you have existing performance test scripts or benchmarks from previous runs, this helps provide a historical view of performance and allows us to offer a more complete testing of your site.

What if I don’t have existing test scripts?

No problem. We will work with you to create test scripts which are catered to your specific needs.

Does JMeter testing also cover mobile apps?

Yes. JMeter can be used to test performance of mobile applications.

How long does performance testing take?

It generally takes 4 weeks to record the performance test scenarios and an additional week for the performance test run (3 test max, with a gap of 2 days).

What will I receive at the end of the testing?

You will receive a written report in tabular form (exportable to .csv) which includes Label, Samples, Average, Max, Min, Standard Deviation, Error%, Throughput, KB/Sec, and Average Bytes. We can help you understand these measurements and the impact they have on your readiness.

Why JMeter + BlazeMeter?

The Apache JMeter™ application is open source software, a 100% pure Java application designed to load test functional behavior and measure performance. It was originally designed for testing Web Applications but has since expanded to other test functions. When combined with BlazeMeter, a licensed software, performance testing can scale beyond 1M users in 20+ locations and multiple tests may be run in parallel to speed results. Reporting with BlazeMeter provides real-time, web-based visualization of testing.

What is the cost?

Components that contribute to the cost of performance testing include the number of scripts created/run, testing across distributed loads, the recording of scripts and the number of users used in the test.
